Surgical scars are more vulnerable to sun damage because they are still healing and have not fully formed a protective layer of skin. This makes them more prone to hyperpigmentation, discoloration, and even scarring. Therefore, it is crucial to use a specific sunscreen that is designed to protect and promote healing for surgical scars.
Sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher
When looking for a sunscreen for your surgical scars, make sure it has an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 30 or higher. This will provide enough protection against harmful UVA/UVB rays from the sun. Remember, scars need extra protection since they are more sensitive to sun exposure.
Physical vs Chemical Sunscreens
